A blueberry mojito is a fun summer twist on a refreshing rum cocktail. Make it a delicious mocktail by simply leaving out the alcohol!
Blueberry mojitos are a fantastic summer drink for so many reasons! They're refreshing and full of fresh flavors, like mint and lime. I love growing mint in my herb garden, and mojitos are a delicious way to use fresh mint.
They're also low in alcohol, with white rum being the only liquor included in the cocktail. That makes these blueberry mojitos a great drink to sip when you're wanting an afternoon cocktail that isn't super strong.
To keep yourself enjoying mojitos all summer, make batches of cocktail syrups - blueberry for this recipe! - ahead of time and store them in the refrigerator. Fruit syrups will last for about 2 weeks. Classic mojitos are made with simple syrup, which can last even longer. (Just watch for it to go cloudy, and ditch it when that happens!)
What You Need
- White rum
- Blueberry simple syrup (recipe below)
- Sugar cubes OR white sugar
- Mint leaves
- Slices of lime
- Blueberries
- Sparkling water or club soda
How to Make a Blueberry Mojito
Place 3-4 mint leaves, 4-5 blueberries, and 1-2 slices of lime in a glass.
Top with the sugar.
Using a muddler or wooden spoon, crush everything together in the bottom of the glass mashing until the sugar starts to dissolve into the fruit.
Add the blueberry syrup (recipe below) and white rum, plus enough ice to fill the glass.
Top with sparkling water or club soda.
Give your drink a gentle stir to mix everything together.
Enjoy!
Tips on Blueberry Mojitos
Warm or even room temperature cocktail syrup will cause your ice to melt faster, watering down your drink. Make your syrup 4 to 24 hours ahead of time. I often make mine first thing in the morning so it's ready for happy hour.
Yes! For the syrup, add them into the pot frozen and just increase the cook time by 3-4 minutes. For the cocktail, thaw the blueberries before adding them to your glass.
There's no substitute for fresh mint. You must have it to make a mojito. It grows easily in a pot or can be found in the produce section of most major grocery stores.
Leave out the rum and make the drink as instructed. With a mojito it's that simple! You may want to increase the syrup by 0.5oz, but that's up to your tastes. Sip and adjust as desired.

How to Make Blueberry Syrup
1 ½ cups blueberries (thawed, if frozen)
½ cup sugar
½ cup water
Place everything in a small pot over medium heat.
Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally, then reduce heat to low and simmer for about 10 minutes until the mixture foams up and the blueberries start to burst open.
Remove from heat and cool for 10 minutes.
Place a fine mesh sieve over a bowl. Pour blueberry mixture through the sieve, gently pressing the berry to release all of the juice.
Remove sieve and discard remaining berry remnants.
Place syrup in the refrigerator until ready to use.
Make sure your syrup is completely chilled before using.
